Annual Service Day Helps SWAU Connect with Community

In anticipation of Ignite, Southwestern’s annual community service day scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, students, faculty and staff are being encouraged to sign up for one of thirty possible service opportunities.

Ignite Service Day is dedicated to a full day of impactful service to the community. Classes will be suspended on that day so that faculty, staff and students can participate in this annual experience.

The addition of a new app this year makes both the decision and sign-up process easier. It is located at: Ignite | Southwestern Adventist University (swau.edu)

One of last year’s most popular service day projects was Community Living Concepts of Keene, an organization that works with special needs adults. Their motto is: “Don’t Let People Tell You You Can’t.” Those who volunteer at this facility will interact with special needs residents, helping them bowl in the morning and assisting them with games and activities in the afternoon.

Most of the projects run from the starting meeting at the gym at 8 a.m. until everyone returns to campus at 4 p.m., but there are a few half-day projects for those with other responsibilities that prohibit them from an all-day project. Please go to the app to look at the remaining options and to sign up to serve.

For more information, contact Susan Grady, SWAU hospitality and service coordinator at ext. 6213.
